What is TOPSCENE®?
TOPSCENE®, a Lockheed Martin product, is an imagery based, 3D scene visualization system that provides a geo-specific, “same scene” training, mission planning, preview, and rehearsal environment to the warfighter. TOPSCENE® products allow commanders and planners to globally train the force, conduct mission planning efficiently and effectively, communicate intent, and coordinate actions on the objective in an adaptable and timely manner. TOPSCENE® systems, currently in use by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), provide the warfighter with increased situational awareness of inaccessible and unfamiliar geographical and cultural areas prior to mission execution.
What are the benefits of TOPSCENE®?
TOPSCENE® products include real-time visualization systems, database production systems, and database production tools that are easy to use. They are also scalable to meet the stringent data demands and Operations Tempo (OPTEMPO) of the joint warfighter’s operational environment. TOPSCENE® systems support a variety of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) options. These include planning system interfaces (TYBRIN® Portable Flight Planning Software/PFPS®, Georgia Tech Research Institute/GTRI FalconView® and Joint Mission Planning Software/JMPS), threat system interfaces, order of battle display, imagery updates, threat volumetric overlays, threat/friendly 3D model insertion, and a full complement of infrared, night vision goggle, and radar correlated sensor suites. Available in a variety of configurations from high-end, full motion combat mission simulators to portable, modular software capable of imagery-based simulation on Windows/PC computing platforms. Each system provides its own blend of performance, physical footprint, and flexible interfaces. Life cycle support costs are minimized across the product family since all TOPSCENE® systems either create or utilize the same high fidelity databases. All systems utilize Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment and a combination of application software (TOPSCENE® Model 40 software is US Department of Defense/DoD Government Off-the-shelf/GOTS) integrated into modular, expandable configurations. Dedicated TOPSCENE® database generation facilities located at key government sites throughout DoD provide a rapid modification and remote update capability to currently deployed real-world mission support databases, as well as the construction of new area, contingency, and training databases.
How does TOPSCENE® work?
TOPSCENE® technology rapidly processes and converts terrain elevation information, two-dimensional imagery, and sensor information from multiple sources into an interactive, 3D visualization of the warfighter’s mission operating environment. This makes it possible to train on actual terrain and in near-real time. Information layers are added through mission planning system interfaces to the 3D scene perspective to incorporate Command and Control (C2), tactical mission data, real-time threat feeds, commander’s intent, and after-action review. In addition TOPSCENE® database tools provide options to utilize the TOPSCENE® database in its native form or to export it for use on non-TOPSCENE® visual solutions.
